buzy bee

elizabeth is quite a "buzy bee" so for her birthday what could be cuter than a bumble bee cake?!

something that makes this cake extra special... the cake is a butter cake but died yellow, the chocolate frosting is disguised as black! instead of a boring 2 layer cake - i made it a dramatic 4 layers. you are probably thinking of extra yummy frosting inbetween the fabulous cake... oh me too BUT if you think about it... yellow layers with black frosting???
yep you guessed it, when you cut into this cake it appears as bee stripes!! yummy fun!!

smash cake

baby audrey is turning a year old
and the tradition is a little smash cake.
stephanie took some professional shots of her tearing it up at nana's house.
she is so cute in her BIG bow and rockin' tutu!
for more pics check out her website!

kylie's candy bar

for kylie's 13th birthday - she wanted a BIG party... huh? each year that child has a big party - what is she talking about!! she decided on a pool party (doable but... we do not have one of those!) well pat does (papa harse's girlfriend).. she said yes and began to prep her yard for the big day!

seeing that it is outside and a pool party i still wanted some sort of a theme.. last year for her birthday she flew to NYC to visit her uncle jeff - they went to dylan's candy bar and she loved that place... who wouldn't though, tons of candy everywhere! seeing that candy buffets are growing in popularity at weddings and parties, i should join in the fad and do that!
so we did, i had the official logo altered to have her name instead of dylan and stephanie (http://www.stephaniefreydenfeldt.com/) took some sweet pool pics for the invites (done by http://www.shutterfly.com/) and started planning the fun.
i wanted the kids to have something to take away from the party but these are teenagers now.. harder to please.. i saw some great water jugs at dollar tree (pink, lime and turquoise) in the late spring and snatched them up.. i hate cups everywhere! rachel helped me with the cricut machine and we cut out their names in vinyl so they had clearly marked "cups" and could take them home (no trash, no dishes!) also found some donut floaties in pink, lime and turquoise and bought up some of those.. other than that all i had to worry about was the table and the food.
the candy bar consisted of assorted glass jars found at the dollar tree and michael's.. i bought non-chocolate candies, ribbons and made tags for the jars.. i already had the cute tablecloths.
of course she wanted a cake and cookies (she has to see me make this stuff on a weekly basis, poor kid!) the cake is the dylan's logo and the cookies, 13's and bikinis.. yellow polka dot bikinis!!

the kids had a blast, some could not make it, that is ok to me!
less teenagers = less drama

"this was the best party ever" - everyone said to me! and i agree, it was so fun! they all came back to our house to crash! i fed them pancakes, candy and juice the next morning!

twilight saga

after seeing the rylee cake, madison's mom quickly called and ordered a cake for her birthday.. madison is turning 11 and is having a eclipse movie watching party.. the party is the same night as the movie premier - how fitting to have the cake match up with the book that inspired the movie!
the cake is a butter cake colored red, the frosting is chocolate colored black and the ribbon, well.. it's real! i added a couple of personal touches and ta da..
i did hear back and the girls just loved the cake!!

my little renee turns 9

not to confuse you, but RYLEE is aka renee to me.. inside story between us that is from about 3 years ago and going strong - oh you wonder what she refers to me as.. strawberry.. cute :)

renee is turning 9 ... already! having a rockin' skating party! she wanted a zebra cake.. lesa wanted to incorporate teal and purple... done, done and done..

cake is zebra, letters are purple and i colored the cake batter teal!

pass the popcorn

i have an order for a movie theme cake... hmmm... the invites were old fashioned popcorn boxes (red and white stripe) and so here goes!

this rectangle cake is now shaped to be a popcorn container. i made white chocolate popcorn and sprinkled yellow sugar on it to make it look like the yummy movie theater butter popcorn. the cake is a yellow cake with buttercream icing. pretty simple, but a crowd pleaser.

i am sure that victoria will have a fabulous 8th birthday at the movie theater with all of her friends. little does she know that i will never forget this cake...

once upon a time.. I like to think of this story as a fairytale/nightmare and not what really happened, oh but it really happened..

i completed this fun cake and all ready for a early saturday morning pick-up (7:30am..yikes!) so on friday afternoon, all is good. oh but i bought the wrong size box. oh well i will head to the store amongst all of the other errands i have tonight and pick one up. no big deal right? i have plans after i leave the house to pick up kylie from school, we hang at decorator's warehouse and check out cool christmas decorations, get our hair cut, go to scott's softball game and pick up michael take him and kylie to granbury, go to the store for the box and land back at home. a lot but doable in one evening. kylie and i received a frantic call from scott.. there are cuss words involved but all in all, he "messed" up he said. well when i left him he was checking out flights to ATL for my mom, i just figured we actually bought one... nope. the cake, he says. of course my heart drops and i need clarification, stat. he proceeds to tell me that he wanted some soup.. ok. he turned on the burner and put the pot on there. ok. well he chose the WRONG BURNER. ok, yep just where you thought, were my cake is. he panicked and yes he fears me. he picked up that cake and the cardboard wrinkled and so did the cake. did i mention that it is red and white and what do those colors make? pink. yea not on a popcorn box. so i am not at home and you know my list i will not be back until at least 10 and i am possibly faced with a complete re-do because the pick up is at 7:30 am. ahhhhh... he takes pics and video with the camera. the video is comical because he is apologizing!! who likes burnt popcorn? well ok my mom, but no one else does. that is the smell i am picking up on, could be in my head too. basically to make this long story a touch shorter, i had to only scrape the icing off and then redo it. oh and scott, he is still alive. victoria and her friends do not know this story and had no idea that this even happened.

there are always "Creative Challenges" but this by far takes the cake..
